ALCS Reminds Forest Owners to Avoid Tree Damage
Appalachian Land & Conservation Services Co. reminds forest owners to protect their trees from unnecessary human damage. The accompanying photographs were taken from a stand of black cherry and maple that has great promise for future value, if only someone would stop building permanent tree stands in and on the biggest, most valuable trees.
Hang-on tree stands are the best way to hunt from a tree. Nails, screw-in steps, and any other hardware that penetrates the tree's bark are both unnecessary and destructive of the tree's timber value. These cherry would have been worth hundreds of dollars to the landowner; now they are firewood.
